ABOUT

Mission and history

At Yoh Theatre, we believe magic happens when students step onto a stage.

Our family of performers—drawn from both Woodstock Union High School and Middle School and members of our community—discovers the joy of bringing stories to life together.

Here, every student can explore their passion, whether it's acting in the spotlight, designing the perfect lighting cue, building innovative sets, or choreographing the next show-stopping number.

We're a community where everyone's voice matters and every perspective brings something special to the stage. When you join Yoh Theatre, you're not just joining a production; you're becoming part of a tradition that celebrates creativity, embraces individual growth, and creates unforgettable memories both on stage and off.

History

The story of Yoh Theatre begins with a vision: that theatre could be more than just performances—it could be a home where students discover themselves through creativity and collaboration. This vision found its champion in Harriet Worrell, a remarkable educator whose dedication would forever change the landscape of theatre education in our community.

Harriet Worrell

Harriet Y. Worrell transformed the WUHS theater program into what we now know as the Yoh Theatre Players—creating a space where generations of students have found their voice and their community. When Harriet found Woodstock and its surrounding communities, she found more than a place to teach; she found a home.

Throughout her career, she brought hundreds of plays, festivals, and theatrical events to life, but her greatest legacy lives on in the students she inspired. Harriet pioneered the unique Speakchorus form and wrote scripts that still resonate with performers today. Her gift was seeing potential in every student, challenging them to grow, embrace knowledge, and discover the power of their own voice.
