Set design and building workshops

In November 2017, 10 students worked with local builders Fred Schlabach, Brian Bontrager, and Emo Chynoweth to help build a safe and visually interesting set for the winter Yoh production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

In January 2018, students then had the opportunity to learn more about the design side of the set-building process from WUHSMS alumna Lilian Buchangroff ’15. Students were tasked with reading a scene carefully, designing a set and producing sketches for a view from the audience perspective and a birds-eye view of the stage, and eventually creating a three-dimensional model of their vision.

While Lilian was working with the Yoh students, she was also studying architecture with a focus on set design at Smith College, and was able to share with students one way of continuing to pursue theatre work after graduation from Woodstock and the Yoh program.

Lilian has continued to help design Yoh sets, including the set for Tuck Everlasting during the 2021-2022 school year, sketches of which are above.
